The third meeting with participation of deputy ministers of agriculture within the framework of G20 under the chairmanship of Turkey is being held during July 2-3, 2015 in Izmir with a purpose of preparation of draft Action Plan on Food Security and Sustainable Food Systems. Delegation consisted of Mr. Rufat Rustamzade, Chief of State Service on Management of Agricultural Projects and Credits under the Ministry of Agriculture and Mr. Zaur Aliyev, Deputy Director of the State Agency on Agricultural Credits under the Ministry of Agriculture are participating at the event. During the meeting the Draft Action plan for achieving the food security and sustainable food systems against the background of global challenges and improvement of the draft document will be discussed.  The agreed document is going to be approved during the meeting of Heads of States of G20, which is scheduled on November 15-16, 2015 in Antalya.

Business workshop on “Upgrading of curriculum program for plant protection” within “Activities for upgrading plant health and phytosanitary system subcomponent of Agricultural Competitiveness Project” was held with participation of scientists of plant protection, farmers, landowners and businessmen in Agronomy department ofAzerbaijanStateAgrarianUniversity in 18 June, 2015. Ibrahim Jafarov, the professor, rector of ASAU, correspondent member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Jamal Guliyev the chairman of State Phytosanitary Control Service under the Ministry of Agriculture, representatives of institutes of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Science for Genetic Resources, Crop Husbandry, Viticulture and Wine-making, Vegetable Production,  Plant Protection, Cotton-Growing and Silk Production has participated to the business workshop. Issues on international experience for capacity building in plant protection, adaptation of curriculum program to international standards and its unification with programs of the leading foreign agrarian higher education institutions, training of qualified experts in accordance with the requirements of the labor market has been discussed in the business workshop. Participants got acquainted with the material-technical base of the university. Finally, it has been intended that curriculum program for plant protection to be formed again on the basis of proposals to be given by participants is submitted for discussion of international experts in order to upgrading relevant curriculum program of ASAU.

Training was held for epizootologists of Regional Veterinary Offices and experts of field veterinary units of Goychay, Agdas, Ujar, Zardab and Kurdamir regions which are included to Goycay Zone Veterinary Laboratory on vaccination and serological examination of animals within brucellosis control program, one of activities of Animal Health and Veterinary Services subcomponent of Agricultural Competitiveness Improvement Project on 16-17 June. Representatives of the Hygiene and Epidemiology Center under Goychay Executive Power and two final-year students of veterinary department of ASAU have participated to the training.

The second meeting with participation of deputy ministers of agriculture within the framework of G20 under the chairmanship of Turkey has been held during the May 6-7 in Istanbul with a purpose of preparation of agriculture ministers meeting scheduled for May 08, 2015. Delegation consisted of Mr. Rufat Rustamzade, Chief of State Service on Management of Agricultural Projects and Credits under the Ministry of Agriculture and Mr. Zaur Aliyev, Deputy Director of the State Agency on Agricultural Credits have participated at the event. During the meeting the draft communique manifesting the joint initiatives of G20 countries for achieving the sustainable food systems has been discussed and improved.

An international event devoted to “Field days” was held on May 02 in Gabala rayon. Opening ceremony of this international event which was reflecting the latest innovations and opportunities in agrarian sector was attended by 50 local and foreign companies including about 3000 representatives. Ilham Guliyev, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sabuhi Abdullayev, Head of Gabala rayon Executive Committee, Abulfaz Malikov, Head of Agricultural Sector and Administrative Committee of “Gilan Holding”, Nikolay Patskevich, Ambassador of Belarus to Azerbaijan, Haggi Shafak, President of “Omca Tarm” company of Turkey, Ibrahim Jafarov, Rector of Azerbaijan State Agrarian University, Associate Member of the Academy of Sciences and academician and some others made speeches during the ceremony. Speakers emphasized the importance of conducting “Field days” in Azerbaijan for the first time noting that main purpose is to link consumers and exporters along with presenting the latest innovations and opportunities in agrarian sector. Main preference is given to innovations in technology and industry within agrarian sector. Favorable condition has been created within “Field days” to meet with clients face to face, discuss important issues and exchange opinions, have access to more specific target audience, comparative presentation of products and services, promotion and marketing opportunities and to more adaptive and freer environment.

It was mentioned that by organizing “Field days”, Azerbaijan uses the experiences of neighboring countries, supports the state policy on the development of a grarian sector in the country, helps the socio-economic development of regions, promotes the development of small and medium size entrepreneurship, in particular of farmers and farm households, provides opportunity to business subjects to get more precise agricultural information more easily and can deliver comprehensive and cheap information to citizens (consumers) about the potential of agrarian sector. It was informed that “Field days” project is aimed at the development of agrarian sector.

Within the project, every entrepreneur engaged in farming on 28 ha land plot in Gabala rayon will have chance to demonstrate their planting, tilling and harvesting activities and crops during six months from April to October. Besides, companies dealing with agrotechnics will have chance to demonstrate their machinery and equipment. Speeches were followed by exhibition of agricultural products, chemicals, agricultural machinery, fertilizers, foodstuff, juices and drinks, laboratory equipment, livestock products and crops. Model of “Farmer’s House” that will be set up for the first time in Azerbaijan in Guba rayon was also displayed during the event. It was informed that, pilot project “Farmer’s House” is planned to be established in all rayons of the country in future. Farmers will found solutions to their problems in those houses. Farmers will be provided with certain advisory services and support there. Guests visited the livestock farm complex at the end of ceremony.  

It should be noted that the event was attended by government agencies, embassies of foreign countries, public union representatives and entrepreneurs engaged in agricultural sector. 

Ms.Laura Tuck, World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia region recently completed a three-day business visit to Azerbaijan. The aim of her visit was to familiarize herself with recent economic and social developments in Azerbaijan and to discuss with the country's leadership, senior government officials, development partners, business community, and civil society the possible ways in which the World Bank can support sustainable economic growth and diversification, and human capital development in the country.

During her visit, the round-table discussion devoted to AzRIP’s 10 Years Anniversary was organized at the World Bank Country Office meeting hall on November 05, 2014 where the Vice-President met with the beneficiaries of Azerbaijan Rural Investment project being implemented by the State Agency on Agricultural Credits under the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan Republic with funding from the Government of Azerbaijan and the World Bank.

The meeting was comprised of two parts. Thus, at the first part of the meeting Mr.Heydar Asadov, Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan Republic, Ms.Laura Tuck, World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia region, Mr.Henry Kerali World Bank Regional Director for the South Caucasus, Ms.Larisa Leshchenko, WB Country Manager in Azerbaijan, Mr. Subhan Asgarov, Ms. Gulbaniz Ganbarova, Deputy Director and Community Development/Capacity Enhancement Manager held duscussions about the current implementation status of AzRIP 2 and future perspectives of the project.

Right after that the roundtable participants watched the five minutes long documentary film devoted to the AzRIP’s 10 Years Anniversary. Then, the active members of communities from Aghsu, Ismayilli, Saatli, Beylagan, Zagatala and Balaken rayons spoke about the AzRIP supported activities including identification, design, construction, repair/rehabilitation, operation and maintenance of the rural infrastructures based on the urgent needs prioritized by the communities, as well as mentioned the achievements gained under Capacity Building and Project Management components. Beneficiaries expressed their impressions on confident and active involvement of the community members in community project cycle stages, monitoring during the project implementation, community contribution collection and recording, sustainability, community fund management, environmental protection during the implementation, technical safety and some other issues. Providing comprehensive answers to the Vice-President's questions, the community representatives shared with Ms. LauraTuck their opinions and recommendations regarding successful future of the communities too. At the end of round-table discussion, Ms. Laura Tuck expressed her satisfaction about the meeting and AzRIP's performance by thanking the project administrators for their efforts and wishing them continued success. The event was concluded with taking a group photo with the project beneficiaries and Ms. Laura Tuck, World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia region.
